We will continue to Kuldi Ghar, which takes about 2 and a half to 3 hours of walking time today. There is a clearing in the forest a little more on from where the route goes very steeply down a bank of rocks and then levels out, running through thickets of bamboo at the bottom of the canyon. The trail keeps to the west side of the river. We will pass by the pasturelands of Tomo, and then trek along the very neck of the canyon at Barah, where there is a small trail and a holy place. The track climbs to the Himalayas from here. Finally, we shall reach Deurali where we shall be staying for the night. Overnight at guesthouse.
Day 07 - Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (Duration: 5 hours)
Today is a much probable day of the trek. We will follow the trail and climb on past the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (which isn’t really a base camp since climbing the mountain is not permitted) to the Annapurna Base Camp. This area is also called the Annapurna Sanctuary, since it is totally surrounded by mountains and is under the protection of the sanctuary. From here, it is a two-hour trek to the Annapurna Base camp, which offers impressive views of the mountain peaks and lets you experience the wide vastness of snowy terrain and close views of huge Himals. The landscape at the Annapurna Base camp is stunning and attractive. The snowy landscape of the Base Camp is very beautiful and the overall view of whole mountain peaks is pretty wonderful. Overnight at guesthouse.
Day 08 - Helicopter Ride to Pokhara and back to Kathmandu
This is another most probable day of the trek as today; you will be experiencing one of the most amazing helicopter rides from the base camp of Everest back to Pokhara early in the morning. The aerial view of the mountain peaks from the helicopter is something that encourages thrill and enthusiasm. While looking below, you would be able to notice the dramatic change in the landscape as the snowy lands of the high mountains are replaced with the green hills, terrace farmlands and forests. Sometimes, group of wild goats can be seen from above, running in a group below. The beautiful landscape of the Annapurna region does not disappoint when seen from a bird ‘eye perspective. The panoramic view of the entire environment presents itself like a beguiling portrait. Finally, we will land at Pokhara. From Pokhara, we will then take an afternoon flight back to Kathmandu. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 09: Final departure
Our Annapurna adventure in Nepal ends today. A Messenger Travel and Tours representative will drop us off at the Tribhuwan International Airport a few hours before the scheduled flight from where you will depart, with beautiful memories of the journey.
We will be staying at 3 Star Standard hotels which have deluxe suite in Kathmandu for 2 nights and the best available teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 300.
All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests. While on the short trek, we have breakfast and dinner in the tea-houses/lodges we spend the night and lunch on our way to the next destination. The teahouse menu includes Nepalese, Tibetan and the more common continental cuisines for us to choose from.
This trek’s itinerary is planned with a high degree of awareness of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Experts agree that gaining elevation without proper consideration of AMS could be fatal. The higher the altitude, the less oxygen will be in the air. Therefore, our body needs time to adapt to an environment with less oxygen. During this trip, we take rest in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche which will help us acclimatize to the high altitude thus resulting in a successful trip.
For Annapurna base camp trek & fly back by helicopter, there will be one leader, assistant leader (5 trekkers: 1 assistant guide) and porters for luggage carrying (2 trekkers: 1 porter). This arrangement ensures that even if anybody in the group gets sick or is unable to carry on, the trip can still go ahead as planned for the rest of the group. We can run the trek for groups of any size, but usually, it is a maximum of twelve people as we've found this to be the best size for a successful trip. If you would like to make a group booking for more than twelve people together, we can arrange this too.
Messenger Travel & Tours is definitely committed to porter rights. We make sure that all our porters are well treated, well paid and we provide the level of shelter, clothing and footwear that these harsh environments demand. Porters who become sick are treated with the same care and attention as other team members and we have previously used helicopters - at our expense - to rescue porters from dangerous situations. We support the work of the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG), making our resources available to them to help improve the working conditions of the porters.
Physical Condition & Experience Requirements
Annapurna base camp trek & fly back by helicopter - 9 days is a moderate trek. Travelers who can walk up to 6-7 hours a day on an uphill and downhill trail will find this trek fulfilling. It is best that we prepare ourselves for the Annapurna trek by jogging and exercising regularly at least a month prior to the start of the trek. Trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp should be relatively easier for those who have experience walking/trekking in a high altitude environment. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases should inform Messenger Travel & Tours before booking the trek.
Best Time to Travel
